Illinois Second Chance National Team Qualifier

When: June 1, 2024
Where: Sycamore High School
Eligibility: Illinois residents only who HAVE NOT qualified to represent Illinois at the USA Wrestling USA Junior and 16U National Championships.
Wrestlers must have a current USA Wrestling Athlete Membership.
Age Groups: Boys - USA Junior and 16U
Girls - USA Junior and 16U

USA Junior must be born 9/1/2004 and after, plus enrolled in grades 9 to 12.
16U must be born in either 2008 or 2009.

Rules: United World Wrestling (UWW) with USA Wrestling (USAW) modifications.
Notes: 2-man brackets will wrestle ONE BOUT (No best 2 of 3).
No exhibition matches are allowed.

USA Junior (Boys and Girls) - 7 am to 8 am
16U (Boys and Girls) - 11 am to 12 pm
Restrictions: Boys must choose a style. They CANNOT compete in both the Freestyle Second Chance Qualifier and the Greco-Roman Second Chance Qualifier.

16U girls must choose an age group (16U or USA Junior), they CANNOT compete in both age groups.

USA Junior girls can only wrestle in USA Junior Girls tournament.

USA Junior (Boys and Girls) - 7 am to 8 am
16U (Boys and Girls) - 11 am to 12 pm
Once your weigh-in is complete, you CANNOT change weight classes.
Wrestling: Saturday, June 1, 2024
8:30 am - Rules Clinic
9 am to approximately 1 pm - Boys USA Junior Freestyle, Boys USA Junior Greco-Roman, and Women's USA Junior Freestyle
Approximately 1 pm* to 5 pm: - Boys 16U Freestyle, Boys 16U Greco-Roman, and Women's 16U Freestyle
*16U competition will begin after the USA Junior competition has been completed
Uniforms: Wrestlers are required to have one RED and one BLUE singlet.
Predominantly RED and predominantly BLUE singlets are allowed, as well as singlets mimicking the UWW color scheme. If a singlet is mimicking the UWW color scheme, the following criteria must be met:
1) The dominant color of RED singlets shall be comprised of one of the following: white, orange, pink, red, yellow, brown, or gold.
2) The dominant color of BLUE singlets shall be comprised of one of the following: black, blue, green, grey, purple, or silver.
3) Two 7 cm bands, one on each leg, shall be positioned across the bottom edge of the leg. For clear distinction, the marking shall cover the circumference of the leg.
4) One 7 cm band positioned on the backside of the upper torso. The band shall be exclusively placed on the back half of the singlet (not visible on the front half).
5) The bands must remain untouched from any graphic, logo, or third-party identification.

Coaching: All coaches are required to have an active 2023-24 USAW Wrestling Leader Membership.
All coaches are required to be NCEP certified (acceptable levels: copper, bronze, silver, or gold).
All coaches will need to check-in at the head table and receive a coach's band.
Separation Criteria: Team or club members
Format: Vertical Pairing (double elimination tournament)
Weight classes with 5 or less wrestlers - one pool
Weight classes with 6 or more wrestlers - two pools (A & B), winner of each pool will wrestle for 1st place, 2nd place finisher from each pool wrestle for 3rd place.
National Team Qualifying: USA Junior (Boys and Girls) - (style and weight class specific) Winner of each weight class claims the final spot on the Illinois National Team.
16U (Boys and Girls) - (style and weight class specific) Winner of each weight class claims the final spot on the Illinois National Team.
